Frequently asked questions for patients
Prescriptions:
Phone consults are $65 nationally.
This covers a 6 month script for pharmacy alternatives to smoking, customised to your needs.
The script is valid for 1 year.
~~~~~~
The other consult type is the ‘SmokerHealth’ preventive care package. This is $65 per consult (2-3 consults usually needed).
You’ll receive referral forms for early diagnosis of lung cancer, heart disease, kidney disease and any other smoking-related conditions relevant to your personal situation.
If abnormalities are found, I can refer you to an appropriate specialist local to you. Various scripts are provided by me as needed.
Basically, this provides peace of mind as a smoker (or ex-smoker). It is generally only needed every 2 years, depending on your circumstances.
Unfortunately no. I have many patients on concession cards, and this cost factors that in.
I aim to keep costs as reasonable as possible.
Medicare have strict guidelines for claiming rebates. When the medical service is Telehealth only (which this is), rebates only apply for specific consult types: mental health, reproductive and sexual health, and some specific situations such as homelessness. Unfortunately Telehealth smoking & vaping consults aren’t covered by Medicare.
Due to medical advertising restrictions, the type of product can’t be named here.
Full details are provided during the consult.
Book here via HealthEngine. It’s a national Telehealth GP service.
If the available appointment times don’t suit, text 0427 800 088 and we can arrange a suitable time.
Lung cancer and heart disease are the main killers of heavy smokers. It is an unpleasant fact, but it’s the reality we must face.
Any heavy smoker over 50, either current or previous, is at higher risk of lung cancer and chronic lung disease (emphysema).
Other smoking-related conditions such as blocked arteries (causing heart attacks and stroke), high blood pressure and kidney disease can be massively reduced with early detection and management.
The ‘SmokerHealth’ preventive care service provides early diagnosis of lung cancer, heart disease, kidney disease and any other smoking-related conditions relevant to your personal situation.
If abnormalities are found, specialist referrals are provided.
These tests are generally only needed every 2 years.
You may have no symptoms of lung or heart disease, BUT these diseases are silent in the early stages.
Don’t be complacent and think ‘it can’t happen to me’. Get tested early and regularly, and have peace of mind.
