Dr Carolyn Beaumont, General practitioner

FRACGP, MD, DipChildHealth, BMedSci(Dist), BMus(Hons), GradDipEd

Carolyn is a general practitioner with Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners. She is an Australian authorized prescriber of nicotine. She is the founder and lead clinician for this Australian prescription service since 2020.  The innovative telehealth service SmokerHealth has recently been founded in 2023.

She is one of Australia’s most experienced tobacco harm reduction doctors, and is a strong advocate for healthier alternatives to smoking. She has helped thousands of Australian ex-smokers remain smoke free. Her service began in 2020, as she developed more awareness and understanding of the plight of chronic smokers – those who desperately want to stop smoking and have tried many traditional options without success.

At the same time, Carolyn recognizes that the best option is for people to never become addicted to tobacco or nicotine in the first place. Carolyn supports government efforts to remove the vape blackmarket, whilst acknowleding this is a complex and entrenched problem. She has created a school presentation, in which the dangers of blackmarket vaping and tobacco addiction in the young are discussed.

She has been recognized by her local council, having been awarded the ‘Inspiring Innovation’ 2024 award for her local council ‘Woman of the year award’. She has been nominated in 2024 for the Westfield ‘Local Heroes’ award for her achievements in tobacco harm reduction. She is also a nominee across several categories for the 2024 Telstra Best of Business awards.

Carolyn has been published in national newspapers, interviewed on radio, co-authored medical journal articles and is a regular speaker at international tobacco harm reduction conferences and forums. She is a member of the JAPAC tobacco harm reduction regional expert group, which brings together field experts from the Asia-Pacific region to educate and influence global tobacco harm reduction policies.
